Mission

The mission of the Foundation is to grant scholarships to college students of merit who are in dire financial need, especially those students majoring in critical disciplines and may not be able to otherwise attend college. If there are multiple students applying, the students’ answers and personal financial situations will be weighted according to objective criteria, such as household income, grades, service to family, and community. Grants are open to the public if enrolled in a state-governed university or college (see “Eligibility Requirements”).

Perpetual Trust & Investments

Any donation to The Cottle Foundation will not be spent by the Board of Directors. Only ninety percent (90%) of the earnings from any donation will be disbursed to students for scholarships in any semester or year. This provision will ensure that the principal funding and donations (and ten percent of the earnings) will last from generation to generation, helping deserving students finance their college education.

There are no salaries involved for the Board of Directors or the Trustee. The principal amounts of funds may be (but not necessarily are) invested in certificates of deposit, long-term bonds, equities, secured loans, or other possible investments. The Foundation’s principal amount should grow each year due to compound interest.
